Thomas Pownall was a British administrator in America who had a sustained interest in the colonies. In 1776 he published the first edition of his survey of the middle and northern colonies that would go through six editions and become the most important geographic account of the area in its era. This edition is a 1784 revision not before published. The maps are 1776 Lewis Evans maps of the colonies from Florida to Canada here well reproduced. Item #26728
