Trail Dust and Saddle Leather.

NY: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1950. Later printing. viii, 246pp, illus. Dust jacket with some rubbing and minor loss, previous owner's name stamp on ffep, else a very good copy. Jo Mora (1876-1947) was an artist/sculptor/photographer who headed west in 1900 and worked there in a variety of media and styles. This is his book about the American cowboy, his mount, and the hardware he uses to do his job. His splendid illustrations are both descriptive and evocative of the old west and the hard working cow hands. J. Frank Dobie - who ought to know - says of this book: "No better exposition anywhere, and here tellingly illustrated, of reatas, spurs, bits, saddles, and other gear." Herd 1571. Item #26687
