Featherstonhaugh was a British scientist who made a geological reconnaissance through the Great Lakes and Upper Mississippi valley in 1835-37. His party traveled as far as Lake Traverse on the Dakota border, and south on the Mississippi to Saint Louis. His travels by canoe in Minnesota and Wisconsin are of particular interest. This is a reprint edition of his account originally published in 1847, augmented with a comprehensive index and new historical introduction. Item #24222
