History of the Discovery of America...engagements with the Indians in New-England...

Boston: J.P. Peaslee, 1828. Later of many editions. 256pp, 3 plates, one folding. Later half leather and marbled boards. Internally foxed, else very good. Howes says of this, "A well-night worthless production of a seventeen year-old lad which enjoyed wide favor by an uncritical public." We are nothing if not fair and balanced, so we sought another bibliographical reference, Field's Indian Bibliography which quotes an authority as having found twenty-two chronological errors on a single page. Well, the fold out frontispiece - a woodcut battle scene featuring the Indian chief Tecumseh - is impressive, and well worth it. Howes T807, Field 1569. Item #23447
