A Preliminary Study of the Pueblo of Taos New Mexico

Chicago: University of Chicago Press, 1898. First edition. 48pp, plates. Original printed wrappers. A couple of minor chips to the wraps, one plate almost loose, previous owner's name on front wrap, else near fine. A very early account of the Pueblo based on first hand observation submitted by Miller as his dissertation in anthropology. In a contemporary review, Charles Lummis said of the monograph, "Merton Leland Miller has printed A Preliminary Study of the Pueblo of Taos, N.M., the results of his three months in that interesting village in 1896. The paper is a creditable one, leaning largely on Bandelier; and is marred by few errors of fact or of judgement." Item #23415
