Some wear to extremities, inscribed by the author, a couple of the photos faded but legible, overall a very good copy. A light hearted account of a junket made by a group of eastern freight agents sponsored by the Burlington, Denver and Rio Grande, and Santa Fe Railroad. The party - and apparently it was quite a party - traveled from Chicago to Chihuahua, Mexico passing through or stopping in Omaha, Denver, Pueblo, Trinidad, Las Vegas, El Paso and other spots along the way. The photographs depict many of the landmarks along the route, several in Mexico, an obvious attempt to document the exotic foreign locale. There is a chapter on cowboys and a detailed description of a visit to the Montezuma hot springs. The small (6 x 8 inches) folding map shows the route of the tour with an even smaller inset of the D&RG tracks from Salida to Marshall Pass. An unusual travel book, one of the few nineteenth century accounts with original photos. Rare as the audience was limited to the 65 travelers, although this copy is inscribed by the author to someone not on the roster. Adams Herd 2187. Item #23395
