In the late 1870's as the Southern Pacific neared the raw territory of Arizona, boosters published several accounts describing the area and its potential. Hodge's book is marked by its detail and (perhaps over enthusiastic) optimism. He traveled widely in the territory and here provides information on the physical environment, inhabitants, mineral and agricultural resources, and general comments on emigration to Arizona.
