The acts and resolutions passed by the United States Congress (both House and Senate) during the first decades of the nineteenth century include some of the defining actions of the founders of the country, but at least as interesting is the minutia of operating a government at a time when legislators were still making it up as they went along. Included in this volume are an appropriation to Samuel F.B. Morse for superintending construction of a "magnetic telegraph," and a treaty with Great Britain establishing the boundary from the St. Lawrence to the Rocky Mountains. There is no mention of the boundary from the Rockies to the Pacific, a contentious issue that would not be settled until 1846. Item #19432
