Sketches of life in Oregon, mostly concerning Indians with some information on the fur trade. Originally published anonymously in 1853, there was some controversy over the authorship - Howes lists Duncan Finlayson - but I'll go with Wagner-Camp-Becker. Ogden (1790-1854) was a successful agent for the Hudson's Bay Company who explored much of the Rocky Mountain west when the term still meant something. The story of the massacre of Jedidiah Smith's party on the Umpqua River in 1828 seems to be quoted in Smith's own words. An attractive Grabhorn production. Howes F139, W-C-B 232. Item #19006
