This is the first general study of the new territory acquired from Mexico by conquest and purchase. It gives a good description of the area included in the states and territories of California, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, Utah and Colorado with emphasis on mineral wealth. Probably the most interesting part is a 57 page bibliographic essay on books about the states and territories of the southwest with quite a few titles not familiar to me. Item #3816
