NP: NP, ND. Numbered and signed. 2 folio sheets in paper covered boards. Very good. In 1859-60 the rumor of gold drew thousands of men to the eastern slope of the Rocky Mountains. Nominally a part of Kansas Territory, the mining camps were far beyond the existing structures of law and order. Early attempts to organize the territory of Colona or Jefferson came to naught, but local attempts to establish governments were more successful. Two of the first camps to organize were the Gregory district and Central district, establishing laws that laid out the boundaries, created rules for staking claims, and set punishments for a variety of crimes. These laws were printed on broadside sheets for all to see. The ubiquitous Nolie Mumey has here reproduced those broadsides in facsimile. Item #26513
