There is a presentation from Edwards to the Governor of Missouri dated Dec. 24, 1860. A history centering on St. Louis, but with much on the fur trade, early days in the west, Indian fights, the commercial development of St. Louis, and many biographies of prominent citizens. The full page engravings offer bird's eye views of several western cities including Pittsburgh, Chicago, Milwaukee, Detroit, Cincinnati, and St. Louis. Certainly one of the more decorative bindings we have had. It is full red leather with much gilt decoration still bright, all edges gilt, and a silver hasp. Howes E69.
